Warner Robins, Georgia - The City of Warner Robins proudly unveiled Wings at Commercial Circle today, a striking new public art installation that pays tribute to the city’s deep aviation roots while celebrating technical education and community partnerships.
This vibrant placemaking project features 46 handcrafted metal plane sculptures, forming a dynamic display that symbolizes flight, progress, and innovation. Created by talented welding students from Central Georgia Technical College, Houston County Board of Education, and Peach County Board of Education, the installation represents a collaboration of education, creativity, and civic pride.
The unveiling ceremony was held at 11:00 AM and included remarks from Mayor LaRhonda W. Patrick, who emphasized the city’s commitment to placemaking as a tool for economic development and cultural enrichment.
“We are honored to bring this vision to life in the heart of Warner Robins,” said Mayor Patrick. “Wings at Commercial Circle not only beautifies a key redevelopment area but also strengthens our community’s connection to its aviation heritage while showcasing the power of partnership.”
Special thanks were extended to:
City Council members
Downtown Development Authority Board Members
Houston County Board of Education
Peach County Board of Education
Central Georgia Technical College
The sculpture is the result of a strong multi-agency collaboration:
30 planes were crafted by students from Central Georgia Technical College
10 planes from Houston County Schools
16 planes from Peach County Schools
This initiative was championed by the Downtown Development Authority and the Community and Economic Development Department, with additional funding provided by the Georgia Council for the Arts.
Gratitude was also expressed to the City’s Public Works Department, who constructed the sculpture base and ensured its proper installation. A special acknowledgment was given to Matt Porter, a Public Works team member affectionately referred to as the City’s “artist in residence,” for his expert welding and craftsmanship.
The event also featured remarks from Mike Pace, Dean of Aerospace, Trade & Industry at Central Georgia Technical College, and recognized the presence of Dr. Lionel Brown, Superintendent of Peach County Schools, and Dr. Ricky Rodgers, Assistant Superintendent of Houston County Schools.
As Mayor Patrick stated during the event, “Placemaking is about more than aesthetics — it’s about building spaces that encourage economic growth, cultural expression, and community connection. Wings at Commercial Circle embodies all of that and more.”
