Warner Robins, Georgia - The City of Warner Robins is taking the next step toward the future redevelopment of Perkins Park, formerly known as Perkins Field, with a comprehensive planning effort focused on transforming the site into a signature community asset and vibrant public greenspace.
Once a baseball facility, Perkins Park has evolved through the City’s Operation Reawaken initiative into a popular gathering place for community events, including Food Truck Roundups, the International City Festival, and Trunk-or-Treat celebrations. The success of these events has demonstrated the park’s potential as a community destination while also highlighting the need for enhanced amenities and infrastructure to support year-round use.
The Perkins Park planning project will explore opportunities to create a more attractive, functional, and inclusive public space that encourages daily recreation, social interaction, and community engagement. The project will also examine innovative stormwater management solutions designed to help address flooding and runoff concerns within the Commercial Circle District.
“Perkins Park has already demonstrated its ability to bring people together, and this planning effort gives us the opportunity to envision how it can serve our community even more in the future,” said Mayor LaRhonda W. Patrick. “By looking at recreation, community gathering spaces, and stormwater management together, we can create a vision that supports both the quality of life of our residents and the long-term resilience of our community.”
Through the integration of green infrastructure, aesthetic stormwater amenities, and resilient landscape design, Perkins Park has the potential to serve as both a recreational centerpiece for the community and an important component of the City’s long-term watershed management strategy. The improvements could also help reduce downstream stormwater impacts affecting Robins Air Force Base, supporting broader community revitalization and regional resilience goals.
“This project is an important first step in developing a clear and cohesive vision for the future of Perkins Park,” said Kate Hogan, Community and Economic Development Department Director. “The planning process will help us understand the opportunities available at the site and create a framework that can guide future redevelopment while reflecting the needs and vision of the community.”
The project’s key goals include stormwater mitigation, the development of Perkins Park renderings, and taking an important step toward the park’s future redevelopment and integration with downtown revitalization efforts.
The planning effort is funded through the Defense Community Resilience Program administered through the Carl Vinson Institute of Government and is being completed at no cost to the City. The anticipated completion date for the planning project is October 2026.
Project deliverables will include a Perkins Park plan, plan enlargements at key locations, graphic support, and a preliminary hydrology study. The project will also provide an opportunity for Mayor, City Council, the community, and City staff to engage with and help shape a shared vision for the park’s future.
The project is being managed by the City’s Community and Economic Development Department, with Kate Hogan serving as project manager. Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services will oversee the park upon completion of the project.
The project team includes representatives from Parks and Recreation, Community and Economic Development, Stormwater, Public Works, Building and Inspections, and other City departments.
The City of Warner Robins will continue to provide updates as the planning process progresses and additional details regarding the vision for Perkins Park become available.
