Hiring Process

  • Fitness and Physical Agility Test - The fitness portion of this test will consist of a timed mile-and-a-half run, pushups, and sit-ups. The time for the run and the amount of sit-ups and pushups are based on age and gender. The physical agility test (or PAT for short) will consist of a weighted stair climb, a hose hoisting exercise, a striking exercise, a simulated rescue drag, a 100' charged hose line advancement, and an equipment carry exercise. Candidates will wear a firefighting coat, helmet, and a self-contained breathing apparatus. After you pass the PAT, you will be instructed on a return date for the Entrance Lab.

  • Entrance Lab - Measures an individual's mechanical aptitude, manipulative ability, ability to follow directions, interpersonal relations, and written and oral communication skills during a day of evaluations of interpersonal, cognitive, and psychomotor skills. After passing the Entrance Lab, you will be given a date to attend an interview.

  • Interview - The fire chief and the department's leadership will conduct a job interview that is consistent with individuals entering the fire service. After the interview, the selected individuals will be notified and given a conditional job offer.

  • Conditional job offer- The job offer is contingent upon completing the medical exam and physical and background investigation. After all candidates have completed the process, all recruit candidates will be notified of the official start date.
